SNUTKI Folk Ensemble was established in 1984 at the Primary School in Potarzyca, on the initiative of Aleksandra Mendelska, a teacher at the school. The name of the ensemble comes from the white embroidery technique known as nasnuwany, practised mainly in Golina, a village neighbouring Potarzyca.

Initially, the band operated as a school club. In 1986, SNUTKI won their first award in the “Barwy Przyjaźni” competition in Kalisz. In the following years, the group performed at many provincial competitions, repeatedly winning first place. Between 1989 and 1994, SNUTKI won the Kalisz Province Folklore Festival four times. In 1991, the ensemble won the Cup of the Superintendent of Education and Upbringing in Kalisz. SNUTKI won their first laurels at the International Meetings of Children’s and Youth Folk Ensembles “Kraków 92”. In the following years (1994-96), they won awards at the National Meetings of Children’s Folk Ensembles in Skierniewice. In 2002-03, SNUTKI won silver and gold medals, respectively, at the Presentations of the Culture of South-Western Greater Poland. In 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2009, the group received distinctions at the Provincial Folklore Reviews in Nowy Tomyśl, Pobiedziska and Gniezno. In October 2007, the children’s group of the ensemble won the main prize at the 15th National Folklore Festival of Children’s Creativity “Child in Folklore” in Baranów Sandomierski. In September 2008, the youth group of the ensemble won the main prize at the 22nd National Festival of School Youth Culture in Zakopane.

Between June and October 2019, complete Wielkopolska costumes for women and men, women’s bonnets and men’s hats, as well as stage footwear for all members of the ensemble were purchased. These purchases were co-financed by the National Centre for Culture as part of the EtnoPolska 2019 programme. The funds required to carry out this task were covered by the Jarocin Municipality.

Between July and October 2020, the stage show “Jak to w Golinie i okolicy dawniej bywało” (How it used to be in Golina and the surrounding area) was prepared and introduced into the artistic programme of the “Snutki” ensemble. The project was financed by the National Centre for Culture as part of the EtnoPolska 2020 programme. The required own funds were covered by the Jarocin Municipality.

TEAM COMPOSITION
The team consists of children and young people from almost the entire Jarocin region. Currently, the team consists of three dance groups, a folk band (accordion, violin, trumpet, double bass and drum) and a Greater Poland bagpipe band.

Patronage

In 1996, the parents of children performing in the SNUTKI ensemble established the Association of Folk Culture Enthusiasts, which has been sponsoring the ensemble since its inception. Funds for the ensemble’s activities come from, among others, the budgets of the Jarocin Commune and the Jarocin County.
